Transportation Planner - 4th Shift

The primary function of this position is to maintain a daily shipping plan and to monitor the potential consolidation of shippable orders.
Review and analyze daily waves of shippable orders optimized by the load planning system (PkMS and/or TMS when implemented) to create and distribute a daily shipping plan.
Identify shippable orders with potential for further consolidation and perform associated duties to validate the pick status, feasibility and efficiencies gained through alternative routing options, quote and tender as deemed appropriate, and to update systems with selected routing.
Obtain routing for customer pick up orders as per their specific routing guide instructions, which includes cross-functional coordination to validate status and freight metrics to update into the customer's TMS/online routing tools, and coordinate pick up with the carrier selected.
Freight tendered to a carrier represents a binding contract between Carhartt and the carrier service provider that directly impacts the total freight out on sales spend. The Transportation Planner is responsible for reviewing these tenders to ensure that the loads are being issued within the established parameters and optimizing them further based upon cost, capacity, transit time, and carrier performance, and approving them if they are within said parameters. Responsible for identifying and seeking guidance on shipments which fall outside of the parameters by which their decisions are made on a case by case basis.
Monitor operational activity to ensure the transportation plan is executed in a timely and efficient manner. Act as liaison for day to day tactical execution/dispatching between logistics centers, carriers, customer service and the transportation team. Communicate at the operational level between the transportation team, the carrier base, shipping operations to ensure timely pick-up and resolution of service issues.
Maintain relationships with core and back-up carriers. Responsible for effective carrier management/ utilization in the areas of: cost, on-time performance, service, service tracking, capacity, equipment availability and Carhartt's utilization of said equipment, transit reports, etc. Work with various internal groups to provide timely and accurate feedback regarding carriers' performance.
Aid in resolving delivery issues and reported claims as necessary.
Negotiate spot quote rates as required.
Compile and analyze monthly operational key performance indicator metrics for management/executive review and to support strategic planning efforts
Satisfaction of internal customers with timeliness and quality of services provided
Improvement of costs and/or operations, such as lead times, year over year.
Flexibility, accuracy and responsiveness to new/special projects assigned
Teamwork and cooperation with coworkers and internal customers
College Degree Preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field
Minimum 2 years experience in logistics or transportation planning position
Demonstrated understanding of and experience in use of Transportation Management/Optimization Systems Preferred
SAP Operating Experience a plus
General understanding of warehousing, inventory, order fulfillment, and customer service functions and operations
Normal office environment; cubicle setting
Walk through of the shipping, receiving docks - daily, as required. Compliance with procedures for dress/safety required.
